Meeting of the Representative of Saqqez and Baneh and the Governor of Saqqez with the University of Kurdistan Board of Directors:
Allocation of 65 Billion Tomans for the Saqqez Faculty Project and Student Dormitory Construction
On Saturday, February 21, 2026, Dr. Mohsen Biglari, the Honorable Representative of Saqqez and Baneh in the Islamic Consultative Assembly and a member of the Budget Consolidation Committee, accompanied by Dr. Ziaoddin Nomani, the Honorable Governor of Saqqez, met with the Board of Directors of the University of Kurdistan. During this session, a comprehensive report on the current status of the university and the progress of the Saqqez Faculty project was presented, addressing the primary challenges and obstacles. Dr. Biglari, upon reviewing the executive status of the project, pledged his full support to resolve existing impediments.
According to the representative, 15 billion Tomans from the current year’s budget will be allocated toward the completion of the Saqqez Faculty project, with an additional 50 billion Tomans secured for the construction of a student dormitory in the following year. He further emphasized that until the permanent dormitory is fully operational, he would facilitate the provision of suitable temporary housing for students. Highlighting the University of Kurdistan's status as one of the region's premier public institutions, Dr. Biglari reaffirmed the legislature's commitment to its development and his determination to pursue the university's budget requirements at the national level.
Furthermore, Dr. Nomani, the Governor of Saqqez, expressed the governorate's readiness to address issues regarding access roads, landscaping, and the provision of essential utilities (water, electricity, and gas) in the coming months. He also announced plans for temporary student accommodation prior to the completion of the permanent dormitory.
The President of the University of Kurdistan expressed his gratitude for the support and diligent follow-ups by the representative and the governor. He stated that the university would exert its maximum capacity to complete the Saqqez Faculty project. Following its completion, the process of obtaining permits for academic programs will be prioritized to ensure that, conditions permitting, student admission begins by September 2027. Referring to the strategic importance and geographical location of Saqqez, he expressed confidence that the faculty would evolve into a vibrant academic hub, attracting students from neighboring cities and the wider region.
